Equateq has unparalleled expertise and capability to support any company wanting to grow and operate in the booming omega oils sector. At our dedicated cGMP facility in the Western Isles of Scotland, we can purify and enrich all omega-3 and omega-6 long chain fatty acids. We are also involved in various research projects to further explore the life-enhancing role of these crucial nutrients.

Our Fatty Acid Plant produces commercial quantities of fatty acid concentrates of the highest purity under cGMP protocols. We specialise in low temperature fractionation, allowing enrichment of natural triglyceride oils. But we can also concentrate in other key forms: Free Fatty Acids, Ethyl Esters and onto reconstituted Triglycerides. We can purify all these forms in any fatty acid up to 99%. Our expertise and capability give us great flexibility in meeting particular customer requirements.

The production is supported by our Lipid Laboratory, where we can perform all analytical support necessary for cGMP production. We offer a complete QA package for customers, ensuring all legs of a supply chain -- from raw material to finished product -- are validated as fully compliant with the stringent requirements of the marketplace. Stability work, new product formulation and clinical trial support are standard tasks for our experienced laboratory staff.

We stay at the cutting edge of fatty acid research through our API Plant. This section of the plant, as well as the laboratory, have an FDA pre-approval. We can perform any key pharmaceutical process, and the plant is perfectly suited for pilot-scale pre-production projects. It also allows us to do advanced lipid research on pioneering compounds.

Our unique collection of capabilities and know-how enable Equateq to turn ideas into reality in the rapidly growing area of fatty acid research.

Situated on the edge of a pristine sea loch on the Isle of Lewis, minutes away from the ancient stone circle at Callanish, the pharmaceutical-standard production and analysis facility is a true centre of excellence.

Equateq's unique capabilities and know-how enable us to turn ideas into reality in the rapidly growing field of fatty acid research

The facility was developed during the 1980s by the late lipid pioneer, Dr David Horrobin as the main pilot plant and production facility for Scotia Pharmaceuticals. Millions of pounds were invested to ensure all equipment and processes were compliant with exacting pharmaceutical standards.

The plant changed hands several times before being taken over in Jan 2006 by Adam and Cathra Kelliher. Their vision is to establish Equateq as a world centre for lipid research, pulling together ideas, expertise and know-how in the physical creation of the highest grade compounds.

The Equateq facility also holds great emotional significance for the new owners: Cathra is the daughter of Dr David Horrobin, who passed away in April 2003. The plant is the site of a library created in his memory, whihc also hold his personal archive: thousands of papers and documents, a treasure trove of ideas and thought accumulated during some four decades of work.
