Equateq’s crown jewels are its development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients based on lipid compounds.

Our development programme has already delivered specific compounds that in pre-clinical tests indicate great potential opportunity for safe and effective treatment of various conditions. All have been developed in-house at our dedicated facility.

Our projects are:

Scaleable
Physical exploration at mg-scale begins in our GMP lab, after which we have the capability to scale-up core processes to to kg-scale at our API production facility, and then on to ton-scale in our main fatty acid plant.

Lipid Specific
Classical chemical synthesis can involve harsh additives or processing that is unsuited for lipids, as it can damage these delicate compounds, or leave toxic residues that then need to be cleaned out. Our methods are designed to be sympathetic to lipids, involving low temperatures and procedures that our staff have employed at the facility for many years.

Breakthrough
Our projects typically offer considerable scope for generation of new Intellectual Property, and we welcome approaches from genuine parties wishing to make strategic partnerships in the lipid space.

Our areas of interest in Lipid API development are:

  • Exploiting the Maxomega range as super-pure APIs, for which we have the expertise to offer full characterisation of our compounds, as part of an Investigational New Drug submission, or a Drug Master File. We specialise in contract scale-up work, where we take a customer’s compound that is IP-protected, and characterise it from lab-scale through to commercial quantities according to cGMP
  • Combining Maxomega fatty acids in novel combinations, to create Designer Triglycerides, thereby increasing efficacy, and offering new opportunities for IP generation
  • Transforming lipids into other forms, which are more malleable for drug delivery
  • Exploring the exact role of lipid metabolites and derivatives, which have immense potential for offering potent, breakthrough treatments for a range of medical conditions, many of which are currently starved of innovation
