Equateq's main activity is producing the highest-grade fatty acid compounds. We have a very clear Product Strategy:
Our main technique for enriching oils is low temperature fractionation, a process known as Crystallisation. The method allows for the removal of most saturates and monounsaturates, leaving polyunsaturates in a higher proportion. The oils are deodorized for maximum palatability.
The key advantage in using Crystallisation is that the resulting enriched triglyceride has undergone no chemical manipulation, and so the natural state of the oil is maintained. It also allows the enriched oil to be marketed as natural, and so is 'label friendly'. The technique can be applied to any marine or botanical oil, and will also enrich Free Fatty Acids.
Higher concentrates are achievable by converting TG oils to Free Fatty Acid or Ethyl Ester form followed by crystallization or distillation. Both EE and FFA forms may then be re-constituted under mild conditions to a Triglyceride form.
High Peformance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is used to produce super-pure concentrates of target fatty acids, mainly for pharmaceutical or research use. Feedstocks may be in the form of Free Fatty Acids or Ethyl Esters. This technique can be applied to any omega-6 or omega-3 fatty acid. We make 99% pure GLA, EPA and DHA, and can offer bespoke products such as n-3 DPA -- based on customer requirement. Products may be provided in EE, FFA or in rTG forms
