Fatty Acids of the Highest Specification: CRYSTAL

Our main technique for enriching oils is low temperature fractionation, a process known as Crystallisation. The method allows for the removal of most saturates and monounsaturates, leaving polyunsaturates in a higher proportion. The oils are deodorized for maximum palatability. The key advantage in using Crystallisation is that the resulting enriched triglyceride has undergone no chemical manipulation, and so the natural state of the oil is maintained. It also allows the enriched oil to be marketed as natural, and is 'label friendly'. The technique can be applied to any marine or botanical oil, and will also enrich Free Fatty Acids.

Our CRYSTAL Range: enriched oil as Nature Intended

  • We use a method called Low Temperature Fractionation, or Crystallisation, under which we bring down the temperature and at certain levels, saturates and then mono-unsaturates, will crystallise into solids. These are filtered off, leaving a higher proportion of poly-unsaturates in the oil
  • The final enriched oil is kept in its natural triglyceride state
  • Crystal Oils are highly stable, having very low levels of di-glycerides, mono-glycerides, or free fatty acids
  • Crystal Oils are largely odourless and flavourless
  • Crystallisation is sympathetic to the oil, unlike other concentration methods, which can manipulate the molecular structure of the fatty acids, and introduce volatiles
  • Crystallisation can be applied to all feedstocks: marine, botanical, algal
  • Crystallisation is a method unique to Equateq in the omega oils sector, and we have considerable know-how in this method
  • Depending on the complexity of the oil, the total PUFA can be >70%. Crystallised Omega-3 Marine Oils are typically ~50% PUFA
  • Crystallisation is a �label-friendly� form: our Crystal oils are not novel foods, nor synthetic. As such, these are a perfect ingredient for functional foods, or for any company concerned about its natural credentials

  • Crystal DHA 10/35 TG OMEGA-3 TOTAL = 50%

Omega-6 Oils:

  • Crystal GLA 40 TG PUFA TOTAL = 80%
  • Crystal SDA 20 TG PUFA TOTAL = 70%
